Lehigh Valley Plastics

PROJECT TYPE: Design Build
INDUSTRY TYPE: Industrial

Burkholder's HVAC designed and installed the HVAC system for this new facility which required many renovations to house the plastic fabrication equipment. Burkholder's was also tasked with moving the entire dust collection system to the new facility with minimal downtime.

When Lehigh Valley Plastics decided to move out of their three antiquated buildings and into one larger facility, the challenge for the design/build construction team, headed by Boyle Construction, was to prepare the new facility for the many renovations and utilities that were required for the plastic fabricating equipment.

One of Burkholder's tasks was to design and install the HVAC system for the production facility utilizing five 40-Ton rooftop units. Once the structural steel was reinforced, the rooftop HVAC units were installed, equally spaced, on the roof and new spiral ductwork was installed for even air distribution throughout the area.

Another challenge was the need to have the entire dust collection system relocated from one of their existing buildings to the new one with very little production downtime. This was accomplished by installing new Quick-Fit Nor-Fab ductwork mains. This required close coordination with Lehigh Valley Plastics' Plant Engineers to determine the exact placement of the duct drops for their equipment. The dust collector was moved over a long weekend and by the end of the week, all of the equipment was connected to the duct main and the collection system was up and running as was Lehigh Valley Plastics production.
